A region with history
Pedra Lascada wines and sparkling wines are born from our hectares of vineyards, surrounded by a vineyard landscape as far as the eye can see in the Cantanhede region. It’s a unique terroir resulting from clay-limestone soils and the mild climate characteristic of its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, with carefully selected grape varieties, which gives life to an author’s product, artisanal and with a touch of innovation.
In our plots, some of old vines, some of the most typical varieties of the Bairrada region that give rise to our wines are planted: Baga, Touriga Nacional, Syrah or Merlot in reds; Bical, Arinto or Maria Gomes in the case of whites.
Located in the central region of Portugal, Bairrada is geographically bounded to the south by the Mondego River, to the north by the Vouga River, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Bussaco and Caramulo mountains. The region is crossed by a network of small rivers, has different types of soil such as clay-limestone, sandy and alluvial, presenting a temperate climate and marked by a strong Atlantic influence.
Wine production in Bairrada has been documented since at least the Roman period, but more concrete records only emerged in the Middle Ages. The region is currently recognized as a producer of excellent red and white wines, having been a pioneer in Portugal in the production of natural sparkling wines.
